First Steps Together to start specialist education podcast

21 Jan 2026

Graphic for Footsteps, the specialist education podcast from First Steps Together. Colourful footprint shapes appear above the title, with the First Steps Together figures on either side.

We are excited to launch a new specialist education podcast in early February, sharing the people, experiences and stories that shape our schools.

The podcast will offer an authentic, behind‑the‑scenes look at life in our schools, sharing the people, experiences and stories that shape First Steps Together, as well as the wider issues and topics affecting specialist education today.

Each 30‑minute episode will feature the voices of the people who make First Steps Together what it is, from staff working across our schools to the students whose achievements and perspectives inspire everything we do.

Footsteps will also replace our termly newsletter, providing a more accessible way for families and carers to stay connected. We know that not everyone finds reading long documents easy, particularly busy parents or those who may struggle with reading or are neurodivergent themselves.

A short, engaging podcast offers a simpler and more inclusive way to stay up to date, and every episode will include a full transcript so families can choose to listen, read or do both.

Communications Officer Nick Ransom, who will lead the podcast, said: "This is a hugely exciting moment for the First Steps Together community. Being neurodivergent, I know how important connection is and I'm excited to showcase the amazing people within First Steps Together."

Parents and carers will be invited to take part, ensuring the podcast reflects lived experiences from across our community.

Audience feedback will play a big role in shaping future episodes, helping us build something that is genuinely useful, relevant and meaningful.
